Classes & Workshops

Weekly Classes

At Quilters Quest we offer weekly classes. These are suitable for quilters of all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. At these classes you choose your own project and will receive guidance on how to complete it; at the same time, you will have the opportunity to learn a varied number of techniques used in patchwork and appliqué. Classes are available during the day and in the evenings.

Monday 9th January 2012 sees the start of our Winter term. These classes will run for 12 weeks and the cost is £72. If you do not already attend our classes but would like to, contact us & we can add your name to the waiting list.

Our next session of classes starts week beginning 23rd April 2012. These classes will run for 10 weeks at a cost of £60.

Friday Sewing Club

The Friday Sewing Club is held between 10am and 4pm in Quilters Quest every Friday. Come along and work on your own project(s) whilst enjoying the craic with others. The cost is £5 for the day and this includes as much tea and coffee as you can drink. No tuition is included on a Friday. Sewing machines can be hired at a cost of £1 per day. Please contact us to check availability as this is a very popular club.


One-Day Workshops

One-day workshops run from 10am until 4pm and cost £25, unless stated otherwise. Fees do not include materials. A £15 deposit is required at the time of booking to secure each place – this is non-refundable if cancelled less than seven days before the workshop and a replacement is not available. Quilters Quest reserves the right to cancel any workshops; in the unlikely event that this happens we will notify you as soon as possible and all deposits will be refunded.

  • Saturday 25th February 2012, Applique Cushion (Yvonne McKee)
Always wanted to learn applique, then come along and make a start with this lovely cushion. This is called raw edge applique, and is where the edges are finished by machine using a variety of different stitches. Learn how to turn curves and corners with relative ease.   • Saturday 3rd March 2012, Quilt Basics (Clare Greer)
Learn the basics of good quiltmaking – accurate cutting, sewing and pressing. Start with a cushion or a small four-patch or nine-patch lap quilt. Suitable for beginners.

  • Saturday 17th March 2012, Yin Yang (Yvonne McKee)
Elegant and stunning, yet easy to make, this design is a perfect way to show off your strip fabrics. It’s just one block coloured two different ways and set on point. Simple yet effective! Click here to see the finished quilt.

  • Saturday 31st March 2012, Cotton Theory (Yvonne McKee)
Cotton Theory is a new and different way to construct your quilt. Unlike traditional quilts, which are pieced together, layered and then quilted, Cotton Theory projects are quilted first, one segment at a time, and then assembled. The result is a reversible quilt.   • Saturday 28th April 2012, Free Machining (Yvonne McKee)
This is an introduction to free machine quilting – meandering, stippling, swirls, teardrops and much more. After this session you should be more confident in your ability to free machine quilt. A wide variety of designs will be covered during the workshop.

  • Saturday 5th  May 2012, Calling all Strippers! (Yvonne McKee)
Start with precut strips, and you can make  a quilt that is either scrappy or more controlled. Use the Creative Grids 90º Double Strip ruler (or another right-angle ruler with appropriate markings) to create mesmerizing designs. This is a super-easy triangle technique.

  • Saturday 12th  May 2012, Bag Day (Yvonne McKee)
Bag days are always popular. Call in, or check back here, closer to the date to see which bag you will be making.

  • Saturday 19th  May 2012, Curved Piecing (Yvonne McKee)
If you have ever machine pieced curved seams, then you know how tedious the piecing can be. Not any longer! This new spin on curved piecing technique simplifies the process while producing remarkably accurate results.
