The advantages of using extra-wide fabrics are that your backing will be one single piece and you will avoid the hassle of having to piece normal width fabrics together to cover the back of your larger projects. This also means extra-wide backings are a more cost-effective way to back larger projects.

The following fabrics are available from Quilters Quest to be used as extra-wide backings: 100% cotton approximately 108" - 110" wide; 100% cotton approximately 118" wide; cotton sateen 118" wide; and calico is available in 90", 98" and 108" wide. All measurements are approximate.
